Ear Cleaning & Teeth Brushing

dog is having his teeth cleaning
Some say dogs are man’s best friend.  This was definitely the case for Ashanti.  As an only child, Ashanti and her childhood dog were like 2 peas in a pod.  They fought together, played together, slept and ate together.  When she grew up and got married, dogs were out of the question.  Although her husband liked dogs, he was deathly allergic.  For 10 years she put her desire for a dog on the back burner.  Getting a dog after her divorce was a consolation prize.  She would bring Sasha, an exuberant Shih Tzu in for regular ear and teeth cleanings.

Ear Care
Pet Groomers Denton offers ear car for dogs and cats.  Dogs do not have straight ear canals.  For that reason, we must be very careful when cleaning their ears.  Groomers use a special solution to loosen ear wax.  This strategy is used in place of damage causing Q-tips.  The mixture is massaged into the ear canal.  A dry cotton ball is used to wipe away dirt, excess wax and ear mites.  Cats have straight ear canals which makes cleaning them much easier.  Although dogs are much more susceptible to ear mites than cats, our team keeps an eye out for them in both species.

Ear Mites
What might look like dirt to the naked eye is almost always an accumulation of ear mites.  Whenever Ashanti brings Sasha in for grooming, we check for ear mites.  If we notice dirt in her ear, the groomer will take a cotton ball, rub it in the ear and examine it under a microscope.  Ear mites resemble tiny crabs when viewed at high magnification.  They can be very painful for your pet.  Ear mites burrow into the skin and feed on ear wax and blood.  Whenever the team detects an infestation, it is eradicated immediately.  We also teach furry parents how to identify and prevent them.

Dental Disease Prevention
Committing to a 50-hour work week plus commute time doesn’t leave much time for Ashanti to spend with Sasha.  Try as she might, chew toys and bones are not enough to keep Sasha’s teeth cleaned.  Eighty percent of dogs and cats suffer from some form of dental disease.  Plaque is caused by bacteria, food and saliva.  If plaque is not removed in a reasonable amount of time, it will turn into tartar.  This is dangerous because tartar causes gingivitis by surrounding the tooth and getting under gums.  When Sasha comes in for her monthly visits, we brush her teeth and use a mouth rinse with additives to give her a sparkling smile and fresh breath.

Affordable Ear and Tooth Care
After her divorce, Ashanti was determined to get a new lease on life.  The way she saw it, she was only in her late 30’s and had her whole life ahead of her.  It was less than a year after her divorce when Ashanti got engaged.  They agreed to adopt Sasha as a couple.  When that relationship failed suddenly, Ashanti was left to care for Sasha on her own.  Although she was starting over and underemployed, Ashanti was relieved to discover that she could afford our services.  Sasha was always well groomed, in good health and spirits with the help of Pet Groomers Denton.  To learn more about our services and pricing, contact us today.
