Flea & Tick Dip
Dusty just showed up one day. It seemed like he came out of no where. Laurence seemed to attract stray animals. They were always following him home. It wasn’t long before Laurence and Dusty were a pair. Laurence fed Dusty and provided sanctity from the coyotes. Dusty gave Laurence the sporadic companionship he desired. Life on the streets is never kind. Dusty suffered from malnutrition, flea and tick infestations. Laurence brought him to Pet Groomers Denton for a remedy. We showed Laurence how to detect, prevent and get rid of fleas and ticks.
How Flea Infestations Affect You and Your Pet Although Dusty wasn’t a full inside cat, for those brief moments that he was inside, flea and tick eggs fell off him and landed on the furniture and found a protected home in the carpet. The female flea must blood feed before she can begin the reproductive process. She sips blood from your pet and can lay up to 50 eggs daily. Fleas drink 50 times their weight in blood. Eggs are promptly deposited on your pet’s skin and fur. Their short reproductive cycle makes treatments difficult. Unhatched eggs and full fledged fleas fall and jump off your pet and land onto carpets, furniture and humans. How Tick Infestations Affect You and Your Pet Poor Dusty was really suffering. He endured fleas and ticks before coming to Pet Groomers Denton. Ticks are nasty parasites that feed off your pet’s blood. Ticks aren’t just blood suckers, they are known to cause Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia and ehrlichiosis. They easily travel from one warm body to another – humans are no exception. When we removed ticks from Dusty’s skin were were careful not to rupture the exoskeleton. Keeping the tick in tact until is it removed is the best approach. Our groomers are skilled in removing ticks from canines and felines. How to Know When Flea and Tick Treatment Is Necessary A tell-tale sign of flea and tick infestations is licking and scratching. Your pet will attempt to self soothe. Cats and dogs have abrasive tongues. They use them to their advantage to lick off parasites and eat them which can cause acute medical conditions. When ticks or fleas have infested an area, you may notice redness and inflammation. Often, pets will scratch repeatedly, leaving nasty sores behind. If you think your pet has fleas or ticks, take a comb and part their hair. If you notice flea or tick dirt, bring them to Pet Groomers Denton. Flea and Tick Treatment Process When Laurence brought Dusty in for a flea and tick dip, the doctor ran tests. He was no longer malnourished, but he suffered from anemia. His skin was under assault. Laurence noticed that Dusty would bite and lick at the infected areas. Those areas are usually where pets have difficulty reaching – behind ears, shoulders and near the base of the tail. We applied medication to kill eggs and hatched parasites. A soothing solution was applied to diminish incessant itching. Groomers used tweezers to pluck every flea and tick from Dusty’s hair and skin. A medicated salve was placed behind his shoulder blades and at the tail base. This strategy killed fleas and ticks at every stage of their development. |
